Hey Jake. The roads have so far been mostly fine. I've been riding mostly in the shoulder of paved roads (state highways and such). I have a pretty wide berth at most times, but sonmetimes the shoulder just completely disappears. Then I have to start riding on the road with big trucks and the like so I tend to be very careful then.
In terms of unpaved roads, I haven't encountered all that many. However, when they do come around, I have to use the utmost caution. With 40-50 pounds of gear on the back of my bike, the tires tend to slip even more so than on an unloaded bike. It forces me to go a lot slower, especially on downhill unpaved roads.

Shami would you rather ride in southern California? You know you can fly out to San Diego and start riding north. I am sure that will be equally thrilling and not as killing. Think about it!
