Now, on to today! It was yet another nine hour day, but not nearly as bad as Trail Ridge Rd. Before I left on this trip, I set a 60-65 mile per day goal. Thus far, the highest I'd gotten was 55 miles because of the mountains. But today, I rode 75 miles! Most of it through mountains! The last 25 miles were relatively flat, but made so eerie by the fact that I saw 10 cars total the whole time.
Highlights: I had my first (and possibly only) encounter with the Colorado River. It's inspiring to think that the modest flow I saw carves the Grand Canyon hundreds of miles away.
Also, I passed through altitudes above 9,500 feet for the second to last time on the trip! There's another spike at the continental divide near Yellowstone, but I'll worry about that when I get there.
Lastly, I finally met other people who're bike touring! I crossed paths with two guys biking from Houston to Seattle. We exchanged pleasantries and went on our way, but it feel really good to know that someone else is doing this. I'm not crazy.
In other news, I haven't shaved since Tuesday so my Pakistani roots are becoming more and more obvious. I need to buy a razor and shaving cream before an FBI helicopter swoops down and takes me.
I pitched my tent out of the way in the town of Walden, CO. I think this might be my last night in the state. I should be in Wyoming tomorrow, but I'm not certain. I'll check the maps tomorrow morning. Nighty night.
P.S. I apologize for the absurd formatting my phone does with pictures on the blog.

ReplyDeleteshamee, does the sun block matter anymore? was the wind ever, fresher and crispier than this before? does the absence of a spare tire scare you anymore????
ReplyDeleteShamee, enjoy every bit of this, the nature is all around you, captivating and protecting you, inshaAllah you will beat Bob the builder! there is an easy way that, you can do ablution,
make intention.
wipe your dry hands on any of the great rocks, and wipe/touch it on your face (dry) once, as if you are doing with water.
Then place your hand on the rock again and touch/wipe your hands and touch/wipe both of your arms upto elbows, including in-between fingers. And that`s all easy it is.
And i am happy to know that you have a compass, you showed me the way on kinza`s walima. These are the timings for june in your area are:
Fajr 5:00, duhr 2:00, Asr 5:00, maghrib 8:31, Isha 10:10 and that`s all betay. ENJOY.
Love You
